Due to their unique chemical and physical properties, ionic liquids play a crucial role in the field of chemistry as an eco-friendly alternative to replace volatile organic solvents. We have reported earlier an efficient method for a one-pot procedure deprotection/reprotection of the amino group1 and a green strategy for the selective N- urethane protection of amines and amino acids in an ionic liquid.2 The 9-fluorenylmethyloxycarbonyl (Fmoc) protecting group is among the most commonly used masking group for the amino function. In this communication, we disclose the efficacy of an ionic liquid as a solvent and a catalyst for a fast removal of N-Fmoc group.
